When Learning Looks Different, Your Records Need To Too

A tick-list of hours doesn't tell the story of a child who learns in bursts, needs breaks, or has good days and hard days.

🗂️

The Evidence Is Scattered

Notes in a phone, a notebook, an email to the school, a folder of photos. When the Local Authority asks about provision, it takes a weekend to piece together.

🌦️

Patterns Go Unseen

Is Monday always harder? Does poor sleep predict a difficult day? It's almost impossible to spot without a simple, regular record.

💬

Explaining What Works

The extra time, the movement breaks, the quiet start. These adaptations are the substance of your provision, but they rarely get written down.

Wellbeing & Support, Built Into Your Home Education Records

Light enough to use every day, detailed enough to be useful when it counts.

🙂

1. A Ten-Second Daily Check-In

Mood, sleep and energy on a simple 1–5 scale, with an optional note. Children with their own login can record it themselves, which builds trust and puts them in charge of telling you how they are.

  • One tap per rating, no essays required
  • 90-day trends, plus averages by day of the week
  • Children see only their own entries
🎯

2. Support Goals With Real Progress

Set goals that suit your child, such as "works for 20 minutes without a break" or "starts a task without prompting", and move the progress marker as they grow. Mark goals achieved and keep the history.

🧩

3. Adaptations You Can Point To

Record what's in place, such as extra time, movement breaks, a scribe or a quiet space, generally or for a specific subject. If you later apply for exam access arrangements, you'll already have the evidence of what has worked.

📓

4. A Private Log of Difficult Moments

Note what led up to a hard moment, what helped and how long recovery took. It's visible to parents only, and over time it shows which strategies actually work.

🏛️

5. Show Your Local Authority the Full Picture

Homeducate's narrative Local Authority report can include an optional Support & Adaptations section: check-in averages, adaptations in place, goals and the strategies that help.

  • Off by default: you tick the box each time you export
  • You decide what goes to the LA, nothing is sent automatically
  • Written factually, as your own observations, not a clinical assessment

What Homeducate Is, and Isn't

Homeducate is a record-keeping and planning tool for parents. It doesn't diagnose, assess or monitor any condition, it doesn't give medical or legal advice, and it doesn't replace the professionals who support your child. If your child has an EHCP or you're unsure of your Local Authority's duties, check your own situation with them or a specialist organisation.

SEN Home Education Records: Common Questions

How do I keep records for a home educated child with SEN?

Keep a regular record of what your child learns alongside the support and adaptations that make it possible. Homeducate lets you log work and evidence as normal, and add daily wellbeing check-ins, support goals and adaptations, so the whole picture of your provision is in one place.

Can I show my Local Authority the support I give my child?

Yes, if you choose to. The Local Authority report can include an optional Support & Adaptations section. It's never included unless you tick the option when you export.

Is Homeducate a clinical or diagnostic tool?

No. It's a record-keeping tool for parents. It doesn't diagnose, assess or monitor any condition, doesn't give medical advice, and makes no automated decisions about your child.

Can my child log their own check-in?

Yes. Children with their own student login can record a quick daily check-in. They only see their own entries, goals and adaptations; notes about difficult moments are visible to parents only.

How is sensitive information protected?

Wellbeing tracking is off until a parent gives explicit consent. It's excluded from analytics recording, included in your data download, and permanently deleted if you turn the feature off.

Does it cost extra for SEN features?

No. Wellbeing and support tracking is included in every plan. One price, every feature. See pricing →
